Leading American politician Joe Biden formally won the Democratic nomination, to meet Donald Trump in the November presidential election.
Biden tweeted on Twitter that he "got the required number of votes from the delegates of the Democratic Party, which is 1991," and added that he would fight to "win the battle for the soul of the nation."
Biden has become the only candidate for the Democratic Party, since his main opponent, Senator Bernie Sanders, a senator, withdrew last April.
The crisis of the Corona virus and its repercussions on the economy, and the recent civil unrest, will certainly cast a shadow over the elections.
Biden's campaign, who served as Vice President Barack Obama, in Iowa and New Hampshire did not produce good results, but he achieved momentum afterwards with a decisive victory in South Carolina. Then he dominated the so-called "Big Tuesday" elections, where he won 10 votes from 14 states.
Biden said: "It was an honor for me to compete in one of the most talented groups of candidates ever presented by the Democratic Party, and I am proud to say that we will contest this general election as a united party."
Biden, 77, secured the nomination formally, after seven states and the District of Columbia held a presidential primary last Tuesday.
